EXCLUSIVE | Joe Ingles: “It’s exciting to hopefully get the group together in the next couple years”

Interview: Sergen Kumas

On Monday, the Utah Jazz capped off their four-game road tour with a 20-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. After the game, Joe Ingles, Australian forward of the Jazz, spoke with TrendBasket on the game, Australian basketball and his performance from beyond the arc.

Joe just a quick recap: How do you think you did tonight, along with the team?

Obviously not very well; we lost by 20. End of the road trip, we needed to come out with energy, come out the kind of the right way mentally and physically. We didn’t really do that and they got out on us early, and that continued throughout the game.

I’m pretty sure you got this all the time but, with Ben Simmons being an Australian international, you being an Australian international with Dante Exum and Dellavedova here in this league. Where do you see with Ben Simmons taking over as the face of Australian basketball when you see Australia on global stage? Where do think it’s going?

We got a great group of guys. There’s eight or nine of us I think over here now. Some guys playing in Europe, some young kids coming through the college system, and in our league back in Australia. Yeah it’s exciting, it’s exciting to hopefully get the group together in the next couple years. Hopefully stay healthy and actually get to play with everyone together for the first time. It’s kind of far away right now, it’s really not in front of the mind but, obviously once that comes around it’ll be really exciting.

You’re always known to be a consistent three point shooter. Throughout this year, you’ve been shooting 47%, last year 44%. How do you keep the consistency going with your shooting?

Practice. Obviously trying to stay as ready as I can to shoot the shots I get in the game; that’s about it really. Just a lot of extra reps, keep working on them.
