Patrick Comninos, #BasketballCL CEO, is on #BCLPodcast

“Consumption of sports on TV or social media are increasing during this period of the pandemic because people have a lot more time at home to explore. On the social media front, we’re getting a good reaction and very good traction from the clubs and fans. We know especially in countries like Turkey, there is tremendous interest in the performances of clubs. We’re very pleased with the outcomes.

We, indeed, have some partnerships with the clubs. If a club performs well in the domestic competition, they’re given a guaranteed place into the BCL and sometimes some direct rewards. If a club has one poor season, we remain partners. It’s very early to start speculating about specific clubs and what we know this year is that everything’s unpredictable.

BCL is continuously trying to grow. What impresses us the most is the continued interest we are receiving from the clubs. Turkey is a very good example. Half of the teams in the top eight last year [were] interested in playing in the BCL. For us, it’s a great validation of the work we’ve been doing.

Many clubs across Europe are knocking on the door to try to better understand what the opportunity is. I no longer need to start explaining what the BCL is all about. After five years in the market, we have gained a level of credibility. Any club interested in playing in the BCL will find a place in the BCL.”
